Some kind of option to link hero skills
say link arcane echo to meteor shower, etc.
gash to sever artery etc.
that way arcane echo wont echo glowing gaze etc.

Echo to mending, that's all you need.

Echo MS or Echo anything with heroes is a waste. They can't target properly, so it wouldn't achieve the same effect as it does in holy trinity groups with proper tank (AI doesn't understand the concept, so agro spills).

Echo/nuking/whatever is usually the worst approach. Heroes work really well, as long as you're not trying to force them into some cookie cutters, which despite popularity, aren't all that good, and are downright disastrous in many cases.

Heroes do a pretty good job at selecting the skills, given the limited awareness of the world they have. In many ways, I've noticed that their prioritization of targets is better than those of humans.

In other words (since gash+sever isn't really representative), don't make heroes echo nukers.

It's been sugested, but I don't beleive they were aclled links.
Anyway, like Antheus said, the Heroes have a good sense of what to do.
I would suggest to avoid any build that needs a sequence or a set-up.
If you look at henchies like the ones in Prophecies, yeah, heroes will be like that as long as you give them the right skills.
Heroes do avoid using spells that cause exhaustion, so even if they're in a situation where they are able to use it with little penalty, they won't.
Don't try to put more than one AoE spell on a hero, they tend not to know what's best to target for that kind of stuff.
But I will say signed beacuse I have kind of wanted this as well.
